Changes to care homes

Council bosses have now signed a contract which will see Gwalia take over the authority's residential care home service from April 1.

Gwalia will develop four new homes to replace the existing ones, between 2014 and 2015, at a cost of millions of pounds.

Some 350 council staff will transfer to their new boss, with their terms and conditions protected.

Authority leader Ali Thomas said: "We are very delighted about this partnership and the benefits it will deliver to older people in Neath and Port Talbot."

The partners will aim for a seamless hand-over.
